Initially, an XR9 with a 4" barrel was proposed and some discussion followed about producing an XR9-S. It appears that the latter took off first. I am interested in the original XR9 with 4" barrel and rail forward of the trigger guard. Both models are exciting, but the idea of having a full size barrel in a pocket-pistol is really interesting.

Thank you for the good response, and I understand. Looking at the XR9-S in a pic you show holstered inside top of jeans, and from your drawings, the whole range of XR9s will have the same footprint, or nearly, except for the barrel. That would give the same ease of carry as you have pictured the XR9-S, it would seem. I suppose the matters of concealment and power is what interested me most. I will continue to watch and listen. I am a big fan of your firearms, so far. Great job.

I agree. The original 4.2" barreled gun (now called the XR9-L) was intended to duplicate the ballistics of full-sized pistols, which it did (and, in some cases exceeded). It is inevitably my weapon of choice. It became apparent, however, that if I ever needed to miniaturize that gun, it would need a full re-design and not have very many parts in common with the larger gun. What at first seemed to be a chore, ended up being an opportunity to re-design the XR9 mechanism for more robustness and reliability. Since the XR9-S has gone through two generations (since the seven generations of the original), and has had more testing than the original gun, it makes sense that this gun be launched first (aside from the popular demand). While we could also launch the XR9-L, we are hesitant to do so since we have not built one or tested it yet. While it may seem like a no-brainer (just lengthening the XR9-S), nothing can be taken for granted in firearms design, and it would look pretty bad for us if there were a problem in the field and we didn't thoroughly test the longer weapon. Right now we have our hands full scaling up to build the smaller gun, but we have not forgotten our original charter, and that is to produce the world's most powerful 9mm pistol that is under 6" long.
