Boberg Arms

First off I just want to say well done to Boberg for their innovation. I have been brainstorming for the last year as to how to get a longer barrel in a compact gun and had some thoughts so when I saw this I was really excited. I like both the standard length and the Shorty, but I am curious as to weather or not you could put the 4" barrel (or maybe even a longer barrel) into the shorty. Having the barrel hang out a little would not be a big deal for conceal carry. And if you can, what about putting the front sight on the barrel, giving it a longer sight picture. It would still be able to fit in a front pocket, even if you had to extend the bottom of the pocket a little to accommodate the barrel. Just a thought.

Mr Boberg, you are obviously way ahead of the curve here, and have given quite a bit of thought to this pistol!
This is probably a stupid question, but in regards to removing the sight from the barrel every time you had to remove the barrel from the slide. Could the slide be knoched - cut on the front enough to allow the barrel with sight blade to be removed or would that weaken the slide too much? We are talking about maybe a 3/16" slot cut no more than a quater of an inch deep into the slide, probably a little less. And if the barrel were not manufactured with the blade, would it damage the barrel to spot weld a blade onto it? If welding is not possible there are some epoxies that are are tremendously strong, capable of patching engine blocks that might be sufficent for attaching the sighting blade to the barrel. Last question. If the barrel rotates when fired, does it always return to exactly the same position? If it did not the sighting blade on the barrel would not be accurate. For this to work, the barrel must rotate back to the exact same place every time.
Regardless, once your into production the Canadian version looks like a take home to me. I just don't see how any other pistol could compete with your design. The Shorty with extended barrel would fulfill the duty of two pistols, the standard size home or glove box pistol with a 4" barrel, and the back-up hide in your pants pocket pistol. The extended barrel should also make it a decent gun to take to the range for a few hours of target practice without killing your hands. Oh, and a suggestion that you have probably already heard, but if you could offer an extended magazine that holds more rounds it would be great. One with maybe 12 rounds single stack. Ship the pistol with the standard size mag. and offer the extended mag as a back-up. Or just include it in the package if you were so inclined. The standard size mag is a must for conceal carry, but once that runs out the second mag could be a quite a bit longer since you are already engaged. Thanks so much. Matthew

We are considering a Canadian Shorty (XR9-SC) http://www.bobergarms.com/photo/albums/canadian-xr9sc to also be available in the US.

As far as the sight on the barrel - it could be done but would then require the site be removed each time you remove the barrel from the slide.
