I was at the range today for the first run of my XR9-S and after about 60 rounds I noticed that the bead of white paint fell off the front sight?

I don't have any expereance with the color coming off a sight, what kind of paint should I use to repint it?

I'm working on a more comprehensive review of my gun and I'll include photos of this in there tomorrow-ish when I'm done writing up the review...

I was in the first batch and had similar problems, but only with one of the two I received.  I used white fingernail polish.  I also added an unpigmented green phosphorescent paint from GloNation (it glows all night with very little change in the white color in daylight).  Clean the sights with acetone before applying the paint (per Arne's instructions).

We have officially stopped using Site Kote - that stuff is hit and miss.  For a while it seemed that priming the holes had helped, but not in every case.  We are now using white fingernail polish.  We will repaint anyone's sights for free if you send them back here (we will pay the postage both ways).  I am very sorry for the inconvenience I have caused customers with my poor choice in sight paint.

BullDog,

I just ordered that GloNation paint.  It really sounds great.  How long does it have to be in the light to effectively glow at night.  Also what is the best way to apply it.  Did you mix the nail polish with it or did you apply it on top of the nail polish.  What size paint brush or what did you use.

Thanks!!

Rich

Hi Dennis,

Thanks a lot for pointing to GloNation. I was going to paint mine with "glow in the dark". For the record: paint on my sights is OK, i"glow in the dark" was just something I felt I would add myself.

Richard:  Acetone then nail polish.  Let it dry (doesn't take very long).  Then apply the GloNation paint.  I used a needle after trial and error.  The paint is thick and forms a ball at the end of the needle.  If it doesn't flow all around on its own use the needle to "push" it.  A few minutes in light is all that is needed, but I usually leave it out in my room with the overhead light on for about 30 minutes.  It literally glows all night.

thegunenthusiast:  No reason it can't be added over the 'good' paint.  I treated my second pistol (which had no 'falling out' issues) and it glows just fine.  The unpigmented type dries clear (which I found out when putting it over the black hole of the one the paint fell out of [it still glowed but was no use in daylight]).
