shorty, full size and what holsters
Hello Group,
First off, I have been in contact with Arne for quite a while and I am getting the first one!!!(I wish)
How many folks own or have owned the R9? I owned 2, sold one and am going to sell the Stealth I have also. The reasons are: I have become comfortable carrying larger guns. I do IWB carry with NO holster. My Sig 239 SAS rides in this manner perfectly and I don't need a holster. Every holster I have tried just makes any gun to obvious(bulg). The R9 is just to SMALL to ride IWB. I have to have something a little more substantial so that my gut and pants/belt can 'grip' the gun enough. The barrel of the R9 is just TO short and velocity suffers quite a bit. The R9 is just not reliable enough, nuf said.
My concerns with the XR9( Shorty are this: due to it's sort of unusual shape it ain't gonna ride IWB with no holster on my body. So again due to it's unusual shape what holster(s) will fit this gun well. I might carry this gun on my ankle but again am not sure about any available holster that will fit the gun well.
Personally I want the full size. I think the full size would ride IWB very well and I want the extra barrel length as the 9mm is not exactly a powerful round and so the more muzzle velocity the better. The Boberg is rated for +P, that is a big plus.
So, what does everyone think about the holster situation?

As usual, I saw the holster stuff on the website AFTER I made my post. When I get some time I will explore the whole site more thouroughly.
I will be visiting this site often.
I really am looking forward to getting an XR9.

I just did(Watch the holster slideshow that is). Very nice that you already have holsters lined up for your new pistol/s before they become available. It is often so annoying to get a nice new style pistol and then discover that no one makes a holster for it yet. Just went throught that with the "new" Taurus Slim PT709 9MM. It came out this past summer(after Taurus listing it on their website for over 2 years!), I ordered one off Davidson's Gun Genie, then spent several months searching for a suitable holster for it. I now have several and like the pistol, but it is really a PITA going through that. Congratualtions on apparently doing things right!
As for the R9s, I have one on order right now(expected delivery date mid-Feb). It has the new NP3 coated slide technology that is supposed to be very nice. No lubrication needed(or verrry little). We'll see. Of course , I ordered it and paid a pretty penny before hearing about the XR9-S! I still want it but am looking forward to getting the FIRST XR9-S! Sorry Mike, but it's mine. I can wish anyway.

VERY SLICK!
It's nice to see a product this well thought out. I have a non-holster question. I am looking to replace my .380 for CC, but I would rather handle this gun prior to purchase...so how can I do that? Will you have a dealer network setup, or do I have to order from the web site?

We are building our dealer list, but I am guessing that the bulk of the first 500 guns will be purchased off the website so that the individuals who inquired early can get their low serial numbers. Our long-term goal is to focus on service and selling accessories, and then selling guns only to dealers and distributors (just as the other guys do). As far as handling the gun and the grip is concerned - the grip is very "deep" and does not shift in the hand while shooting. The "Overlays" should give you somewhat of a feel for how it fits in the hand. The center of gravity of the gun is close to the middle of your hand, unlike, say a G26 that hangs out there a ways.

Check out the Nemesis by DeSantis. It's a GREAT deep-cover IWB holster, and made for many different firearms. I don't imagine it'd be too hard for them to make one specific to the XR9S.

Hmm. This is a concern. I already have 4 holsters of various design that are suited to my Springfield XD9 Sub Compact. I don't suppose anyone would know if I could use my existing holsters with the XR9S?
I have:
High Noon IWB
Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe
Smart Carry (which I know will work, it's just a pouch)
Cell Pal (which I think will work)
Arne, Can you test these out?
p.s. I was told open ended holsters are better because the can "breathe" and you don't get lint, dirt and crud build up at the bottom of the holster that can get into the gun.

The thickness of the entire XR9-S is .95", which is almost .1" thinner than the XD slide (I am assuming the XD frame to be even thicker than its slide), and the length and height is also smaller, so the XR9-S will fall right into your holsters, but it will rattle around quite a bit. Since having a gun fit securely in a holster is an important criteria, I would not recommend carrying an XR9 in holster not specifically designed for it.

Of course I carry with a loaded chamber. There is no way the Sig 239 is going to accidentally go off. I of course carry hammer down so the only way this gun is going to go off is if the trigger is pulled all the way through a double action stroke. There is simply no way that is going to happen unless I want it to happen.

Ok, to each his own I guess....if you don't feel there's a chance of something catching the trigger while "holstering" the gun into your pants without a holster, more power to you and good luck. I do agree with carrying with a loaded chamber, just not doing so without a holster.
