Boberg Arms

Hello Group,

First off, I have been in contact with Arne for quite a while and I am getting the first one!!!(I wish)

How many folks own or have owned the R9? I owned 2, sold one and am going to sell the Stealth I have also. The reasons are: I have become comfortable carrying larger guns. I do IWB carry with NO holster. My Sig 239 SAS rides in this manner perfectly and I don't need a holster. Every holster I have tried just makes any gun to obvious(bulg). The R9 is just to SMALL to ride IWB. I have to have something a little more substantial so that my gut and pants/belt can 'grip' the gun enough. The barrel of the R9 is just TO short and velocity suffers quite a bit. The R9 is just not reliable enough, nuf said.

My concerns with the XR9( Shorty are this: due to it's sort of unusual shape it ain't gonna ride IWB with no holster on my body. So again due to it's unusual shape what holster(s) will fit this gun well. I might carry this gun on my ankle but again am not sure about any available holster that will fit the gun well.

Personally I want the full size. I think the full size would ride IWB very well and I want the extra barrel length as the 9mm is not exactly a powerful round and so the more muzzle velocity the better. The Boberg is rated for +P, that is a big plus.

So, what does everyone think about the holster situation?

Mike

Holstering in my pants is easy. You just use your left thumb to pull your belt/pants away from your body and place the gun where it feels comfortable and doesn't move around. The metal snap that is on the inside of most of the pants I wear messes up the finish on my 2 Sigs but that is of no importance. My self defense guns have to work, not look pretty.

What could possibly catch the trigger that would cycle it all the way through a double action pull?
A pen in your pocket.
A pocket knife.
A rivet (jeans).

To get the full pull, just have it catch while standing, then sit down.

"Mexican" carry isn't safe, even with a full double-action pull. I don't carry anything without the trigger guard covered.
I have been carrying this way for years. Believe me that I am not the type of person that takes my safety or the safety of others lightly. My carry method is safe and secure. I am not unsafe in any way, shape, form or fashion. I know exactly what I am doing. I totally understand if some folks simply could not be comfortable if they tried to use my carry method. When I first started the whole conceiled carry thing I tried just about every method and holster that there is. My Sig 239SAS models(with Hogue rubber finger groove grips) just ain't gonna go off unless I want them to. The trigger pull is just to long and stiff for an accidental discharge. I understand the concern and am aware that all the 'experts' say my method is not good but It serves me well. I am not concerned with the deragatory cliche's about my method. If it is a "Mexican carry" then so be it. The Hogue grips are a must have IMO. They 'perfect' the gun. I have become such a fan about the Sig 239SAS models that I have sold all my other handguns and now only own 2 of these Sigs. The only other handgun I would consider buying now is an XR9. I only want the original full size model though.

Thanks for the concern about my carry method but I know what I am doing, really. :)

My duty pistol is a Sig P226. Off duty I carry a S&W J Model with a Barami Hip Grip as I need something for deep cover. Never Had the slightest movement on the trigger carrying it this way. If I carry my Sig IWB it conceals better than my 2" J Model in a holdster. I've been looking to replace my S&W and was going to get a Sig P239 until I came across the XR9.

I would like to see the XR9 come with an option for a Clipdraw type belt clip for more secure IWB carry.

Also will it be possible to get a 2 barrel setup for the XR9 Shorty (the extra barrel being longer like the proposed Canadan model) ?

Lastly we are required to carry 3 mag, do you plan to make any larger capacity mags? A couple of 10s would be great for added firepower.

You might want to go ahead and get that 239 right now. Unless you are already on the 'list' to receive one from what I can tell it could be a couple of years before you get your hands on a XR9. There are a whole lota folks on the 'I really want one" list and the first one is not due to be shipped for quite a while yet.

You will NOT be dissapointed with a Sig 239-DEFINATLY get the 'SAS' model. I never dreamed I would only own 2 handguns and they would be IDENTICAL. Get the Hogue grip. The night sights on the SAS models are superb. The SAS also has the edges smoothed and an improved trigger. I paid $785 bucks a piece for mine and they are worth every penny. After all these years and going through about 20 various hangun models I finally found perfection. With luck the XR9 full size, which is the only model I want, will be even better than my Sigs. It will all depend on the trigger. I can live with DAO but it has to be good, comparable to the trigger on the Rohrbaugh R9. The R9 had the only DAO trigger that I could actually live with.

I'll stay on the list but your right I can't wait 2 years.

On your Sig 239 did you go with 9mm or 40S&W?

If you went with 40S&W how does it handle?

Thanks-Andy

I went with 9mm because: my select fire MAC shoots 9mm, I don't have any other guns that chamber 40SW, the Sig 239 is very robust and can handle 9+P ammo with no problems.

With the Hogue grips the 239 is simply a perfect fit in my hand. I am not a very good shot but the Sig 239 points very naturally and I am very confident that I can place my shots 'center of mass' under any circumstances. The only negative thing I can possibly say about the 239SAS is that it doesn't have the new 'all the rage' picitinny mounts so I can't play with lights or lasers with the gun. Other than that the Sig 239 is perfection. As I have said, I only own 2 Sig 239's and have no plans for another handgun except a full size XR9. The XR9 is jost so novel that I just really want one to play with but as far as need, my 239's fill every scenario.

Arne, have you talked to Recluse Holster at all?  They make a great safe pocket holster.
