Boberg Arms

I returned from a business trip to Germany in time for Thanksgiving. Friday, I was notified that my XR9-S was in. What a beauty! The design and workmanship are stunning.

The shooting experience was terrific; less recoil than any other 9MM pocket gun I've owned, about 50 rounds through it and not a hiccup, and accuracy was perfect.

My expectations were high....and they were exceeded.

Well done Arne!

Thanks!  And our Filtermist is still cleaning up our air extremely well as the Haas mill makes our slides and frames - excellent product!

Ditto Arnie... Great job... nice fit and finish...tight .... I'm just afraid to ruin the "brand newness" by shooting it.... I'm sure I'll get over it after I fondle it awile.... :)

Don't worry - it has already been shot and loosened up.

The FFL here told me the pistol came with a spent shell casing for COBUS. That saved me time and added cost. I hope he is correct or I'm a fugitive. If you sent it, how did you know about this odd law?

All I know is that NY sales require two fired shell casings from that gun sealed in a printed envelope.  I didn't know that it cost you more on your end.

He would probably have to pay the dealer to do it at his end...

Oh, I get it - saved added cost too!  Our first NY order mistakingly went out without any casings, forcing the FFL to produce his own, which apparently had to be done by state police.

Exactly. The FFL has to take the pistol or also, I believe, a revolver to the State Police COBIS ( Combined Ballistic Identification System) center nearest to them, and a trooper fires the weapon and collects the casings. So the FFL charges $50.00 to $100.00 extra for the trip (depending on amount of weapons) and the two cartriges.

NY State then keeps the casings so that when a crime is committed with a pistol and the casings are at the scene the casings are picked up and somehow compared to casings held by NY State. This program costs millions of dollars a year.

Until recently, COBUS has never solved a crime. The recent case was when a nut job held up a pharmacy for Oxycoton and executed four people in the store. The police solved the crime quickly and a while later, COBUS came up with the information (maybe) identifying the pistol owner/criminal.

FYI -

I live in NY and just bought a Boberg that was originally shipped to Ohio.  BA did not include spent rounds for COBIS but if the intermediate sells you the gun as a USED gun instead of NEW (even firing one round would make it used), then the intermediate can officially mark the sale as a USED gun and then legally the gun is not subject to the idiotic COBIS requirement for NY.

My FFL would have charged me another $75 and then only God knows how much longer it would have taken for the extra process.  HUGE Thanks to Lurch for the heads up.  Your info saved me tremendous grief and a few bucks also.

I HATE NY politicians.  They are so bass ackward with their crazy laws.

New York's CoBIS seems to be spectacularly unsuccessful: http://readme.readmedia.com/New-York-State-Rifle-Pistol-Association...

Let's hope that it gets repealed there and isn't copied by any other state.  RKS

MD is worse.  With their system (IBIS) , the casing has to be provided by the manufacturer, and the gun has to be on the approved handgun roster.  To get on the roster, the manufacturer (or a citizen wishing to donate one for the cause) must provide the Roster Board with a sample pistol, and it is not a quick process.

I am SO glad I left!

Well, aint that something. I thought there was all of 3 registered guns in the state of NY...
