Another fine leather creation from Mr. Locke. Because I've been carrying a .380 in a front pocket holster for some time, I thought I'd want to do the same with the Boberg. So I ordered one of these along with the IWB holster. I think this design is pretty distinctive and unique. The upper backing piece really breaks up the outline of the grip, yet moves aside easily to grasp it...well done! BTW, nice top detailing in the second pic. Right now the edges are stiff and square, so the outline stands out a bit in the front pocket of my jeans. But I know the four corners will round in a bit after wearing it awhile, so it will be less noticeable and look more like a wallet. With seven in the mag, though, it's the widest wallet I've ever seen! Still, it works acceptably well for front pocket carry. Too tight to draw now, but that will improve as it wears in.
You can see in the last pic why it can't really be carried in the back pocket, though it fits great there. The way girls are always checking out my butt, it's just too risky...8-) Perfect to wear in pants with a button down pocket flap...just don't button, of course. Two thumbs up for Meco holsters!

I have found that riding my thumb over the rear of the slide as I draw out of a pocket helps alot.

Permalink Reply by Harry Truman on March 20, 2012 at 2:53pm A little update. With near summer temps this week, I've switched from IWB to pocket carry. Too much sweat build-up on the gun for my tastes, and a sticky draw with the grips against bare skin. Front pocket carry has been much better than I thought it would be. Been wearing cargo pants almost exclusively, as they work the best. Cheapo $20 Wranglers conceal pretty well and offer very fast access and draw. Dark khaki color seems to hide better than the lighter beige, for some reason.
A nice suprise: I think many of you Meco users may find that your In-Waist-Band holster will do great double duty as a pocket holster in certain pants. If the grip doesn't print for you, you may prefer to avoid the extra layer of leather of the Split Pocket Holster and go this route. I'm still experimenting, but may order a second IWB holster without the metal clip and its leather enclosure. Grip purchase is also a bit better/faster this way.
Permalink Reply by alternety on March 20, 2012 at 3:50pm I received my Meco Split Pocket a couple of weeks ago. Great holster with excellent build quality. The extra leather on the outside still seems like a good idea. I have not gone shopping for new pants (with wider pockets) as yet. The holster prints significantly on the current pants in which I have carried it. BUT, it does not print like something that is obviously a gun (because of that upper flap). Looks more like a wallet or maybe a phone. I still need a wider pocket. I can not draw the way I want from the pocket.
I posted here somewhere about using a leather oil on the holster. Mr. Locke pointed out (correctly) that you don't want to soften the holster because it screws up the grip. However, in the split pocket I found the flap annoying. It is as stiff as any new leather. So I took some of my favorite leather oil (Obenauf's) and applied it liberally to only the flap and let it sit overnight. My thinking is that this will not migrate significantly to the rest of the holster. Success. World of difference walking with your hand in the pocket. Or just reaching for the gun. Much easier on knuckles and back of hand. Printing still does not scream gun.

And a correction to two posts above: While the Meco IWB holster looks a little less conspicuous in a front pocket, the smaller size causes it to come out with the gun when you draw. It's pretty much useless as a practical pocket holster. The Meco Split Pocket holster is wider and stays in your pocket nicely when you draw the gun. The bottom line is, yes, it's a little large, but in pants with a bigger pocket (cargo style) with a wider opening, the XR9-S conceals well with the Split Pocket holster. I think the micro will be the ideal pocket gun when it comes out, but this works very well for now.

The IWB holster is not ment for pocket carry, any holster will not make the gun and holster and gun
