Boberg Arms

Arne,

I am just wanting to know.

I read here on the forum that the latest plans were to produce a batch of "production" guns in July and putting them through the ringer so to speak, for testing the final design and so forth.  I am on the list to get one of the original/full size models which I know will come some time after the "shorty" gets produced.   So anyway, what is the latest best guestimate when the first production guns might be shipped to customers?  Inquiring minds want to know LOL.  I know that this question is probably very 'old' to you and gets aggrevating.  I am patient and will wait my 'turn' so to speak.  I just like to be informed.  I have the good feeling that the early Bobergs's will NOT have some of the problems that the Rohrbaugh has had.  The video of shooting the gun while simulating 'limp wristing' was very impressive.

So, as of this moment, what is the expected time line for the first batch of shorties to be sent to customers?  The sooner the shorties are sent out means the sooner I can get one of the original full size models with that nice long barrel(higher muzzle velocity).

Thanks in advance,  Mikey

Mikey,

Believe me, the sooner we start producing guns, the better for us. We offically incorporated as Boberg Arms Corp. in March 2009, and were expecting to be producing guns by now. Investment money will not last forever, so we really have to get things going ASAP. We have one major bottleneck right now in regards to our state-of-the-art tooling, and I have been really working hard to figure out a way around it. It involves interdependence between gun parts on these jigs but that is all that I can say about it. It is not as easy as chopping off a chunk and outsourcing it. After having learned about how gun parts are made at other companies, I am of the opinion that what we have is ahead of the curve and will probably make castings obsolete. I know I am digressing here, and not answering your "when" question. I have been quoted as stating a lot of dates over the last year, and the picture is getting sharper as time goes on. Quite frankly, I am not personally 'in the loop' to create this wonderful tooling. If I were, it would probably go even slower, since this is not my area of expertise. All I know is that if we had taken all the offers on money down, our phones would be riniging off the hook ("Where's my gun?!!!)", which would be much worse for us!

An associate of mine told me a while back, "Once you are producing, it will seem like you have been doing it forever". I look forward to that time.

We all have ourselves in mind. Perhaps if we consider the venture in its entirety we may submit to the realization it is more than numbers and projections with which Arne has to work.

That is to say, he has already committed to delivering the best he can for us; perhaps we could be cognizant of the dates he posted on the "sale" portion of the site and desist from spamming him with "WHEN" questions.

Just a thought :)

Arne,

What day of the week are third wave shipments of the second batch due to go out this week (week of Nov. 7th)?

Eddie Acunzo

We're sending out 49 more tomorrow, then some more on Friday.

Oooooh boy!!! I hope I'm in tomorrow's wave. The suspense of knowing I'm in this Batch, but not which shipping wave, is killing me! :D

You are not alone.

My FFL sent me an email saying he was going on a trip. Could probably get mine to me by Wednesday.

Grrrrr.

Just keep on making good guns..............

Arne, will all of the second batch be shipped by Friday?

STOP BOTHERING ARNE!!!!  HE'S GOTTA GET BUSY TO BUILD MY GUN!!!

Imagine the example we are setting for our kids....  They would email Santa to death trying to find out the status of their Christmas.

Just kidding.  I'll also be like a kid waiting for Santa when my turn gets closer.

OK, kidding is good. The only reason I am trying to bother him is to work with my FFL so he does not go out of town when the package arrives. It would really not be that much effort to post what ending name/number on the list is being shipped on any specific day when the ship dates are within a week or so. It would be handy for people trying to coordinate delivery, not to mention just KNOWING. Shipping guns is a funny circumstance because of a third party intermediary. Which may be a part time FFL out in the sticks.

After this initial mess with the pre-order backlogs gets resolved, if direct sales are continued, the site needs to behave in a manner to which online purchasers have become accustom (think Amazon). You order and get a receipt within minutes. Either that receipt or something within a few hours of processing is the beginning of a customer oriented process tracking. After approval of the order, it should be shipped within a reasonable time frame. If there is a delay, the expected ship date would be provided. When it ships you get an email stating shipment has occurred, carrier, and a tracking number. Estimated delivery date if available at that time. Now, guns go overnight, so shipping date is pretty much sufficient for that case.

We have become rather accustomed to having some idea of when the delivery of online purchases will occur. If Arne has someone devoted to the still inactive online transaction system (i.e., not key to other critical path tasks) it might be helpful to see if the outstanding orders can be merged into the system so things like notifications occur.

Just sayin.

alternety,

When someone goes to buy a Cadillac, they don't want a Chevy sales experience. It is difficult to balance limited resources (time and money) in a new company when everything needs attention at the same time but hopefully BA will be able to perfect the entire experience like Apple where every customer detail is controlled.

I ABSOLUTELY agree that the entire experience needs to be updated. My previous suggestions regarding the preorder list to improve estimates on production times was also a piece in this process. BA is producing a PREMIUM quality gun at a PREMIUM price but the customer experience is not yet up to par. Arne is extremely responsive to feedback through the forum and is able to provide exceptional service in this manner but as a new company, he has yet to invest in more support staff and software to improve efficiency and automate things like automatic notifications of order status.

I envision Arne's OCD engineering mind evolving the process so every gun will be assembled in a bin with a barcode that can get scanned through each stage. Buyers can get automated emails (maybe with pics) that their baby is now in CNC stage, assembly stage, finishing stage, testing stage, "Congrats! Your Boberg was born on MM/DD/YYYY and will be shipped shortly", "Your New Boberg was shipped on MM/DD/YYYY with tracking # ******* and expected to be delivered to your FFL on MM/DD/YYYY".

With the possessive, personal emotions that many gun owners have for their guns, they would be COMPLETELY in heaven with an experience like what I've described. Satisfaction would go through the roof and BA will need to open up SEVERAL assembly lines just to keep pace. BA would be able to command more of a price premium for their customer service and they would cement their position and loyalty among their customers (Again, think Apple)
