why bother? have a kahr cw 9. 7+1. don't really need a $400 more costly gun in that range. now a double stack, say 12+1,gets real interesting! have a berreta px4 in that mag range. seems ok so far. in the car is where you need hi cap. if you need more than 5-10 rounds in your house, you are screwed. get an ak,ar or shotgun. the bad stuff happens at the convenience store at MN. face to face concealed cary? is anything over 10r really necessary unless you are a cop undercover or a high end bodyguard?

The idea behind a full size XR9 is that you would have the barrel length of a full size pistol with a compact pistol length.

Also, concerning the issue of hi-cap mags, I can imagine various SD senarios in which having more than 10r would be useful. Lets not restrict hi-cap mags for just cops and those that have "sufficient" reason for them to be allowed to have them.

Hard to argue with that.  Also I've had reliablity problems with two Kahr pistols.  Sent them both back to Kahr for warranty work before finally trading them.

Optimum barrel length for the 9mm is about 8 inches which is a bit unwieldy in a pistol, but 6 inches is very do-able. maybe 7 inches in a Boberg. Barrel length is fairly easy to conceal, its the grip length that is the major problem to conceal for most pistols.

I'm guessing that 9mm sub-machinegun (SMG) ammo "likes" the longer barrels.  Some ammo I have tested gained only a few percentage points in energy after going over 5" long on the barrel.   Here are some results on velocity versus barrel length, although the 9mm ammo selection is somewhat limited: http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/9mmluger.html

These data can be copied off the screen and pasted right into Excel, so you can interpolate velocities for any barrel length with these few types of ammo.  One thing to note: velocities can be different in a real world semi-auto versus what they get in these T/C test barrels.  The performance of the Rohrbaugh, for example, as shown at the bottom of that "ballistics by the inch" web page, is well below the curve compared to the test barrels.

Hmmm throwing a curve here...

How about a full size XR45....????

i.e. a full size in good ol' .45 ACP...I'll bet the design could take it. If it ever comes out, I'll probably explode (in a good way) and then probably buy two...one to use and carry to the shower if need be, and the other one just to contemplate on...

could you imagine a .45 that is only an inch wide?

Yeah, carbon fiber with a rear airbag.

Sold with a return label and tourniquet.

The XR9-S already has a "rear airbag" effectively (http://www.bobergarms.com/notes/The_Boberg_Advantage?edit=true) - see "Natural Rear Buffer".

A proposed XR45 would be extremely soft shooting for a gun its size - my only question is should I make it under five inches long (with a 3.1" barrel) or should I make it 5.6" long with a 3.7" barrel and hit 550 fpe with some of those .45 "wonder cartridges" out there?

Since the cartridge is a lot bigger and heavier than the 9mm, I would probably beef up some of the internals making the gun 1.03-1.06" thick.

5.6 inches long with a 3.7 barrel and makes 550 fpe ?!?!??!?!

Mr. Boberg, Sir, if Mr. Jeff Cooper were alive today, God preserve his soul, he would DEMAND to have that gun built...

(tears roll down)

Does this put me second on the list,  5.6" please.
does this make me 3rd on the list?
