So here's the scenario. I have had about 200 rounds through this gun with only the very new gun glitch when chambering the first round from the magazine. This became a non-issue after a few magazines and some experience. The gun now chambers the first round normally and no other failures to feed with a bunch of different ammo, hollowpoint( including normal pressure Gold Dots) and FMJ. In that first range session, I didn't have any +P to shoot. The gun was thoroughly cleaned and lubed as per the manual after that first session.
At my second session, I had some Magtech, some WWB and 2 boxes( 50 ea.) of Gold Dot 124 Gr. +P. I bought a couple boxes of GD 124 gr +P and figured this would probably be my carry ammo after it passed this first round of testing and then another dozen boxes. All the FMJ worked great before and after the other two FTFeeds. The first failure came about 40 rounds into the session. I had shot some FMJ and a couple of mags of the +P. I then tried to empty one mag at full speed and 3 or 4 rounds into the rapid fire test, one jammed it was pointing slightly too far upwards to enter the barrel and responded to a good whack on the back of the slide.
The second was actually witnessed by one of the range officers. My gun was grouping about 2 inches low at 7 yds so I asked him to watch to see if I was doing anything wrong with this particular gun. He said my form was good, but agian about 4 or 5 rounds into the mag, this time with very slow aimed fire I had one FTFeed, which also responded to a whck on the back.
Before accepting his decision that the gun was indeed shooting low I insisted he shoot 5 rounds. He proceeded to put 4shots into a group that could be covered by a quarter with one outlier. His shots were also low by 2inches.
So to summarize.
1. Two FTFeeds out of 100 Gold DOt +P's with a pretty clean gun. Shot another 150 or so FMJ's no problem. Thoughts?
2. Gun shooting 2" low at 7 yds with at least 6 different types of ammo. Is there a fix or should I settle for just aiming a bit higher? I realize that 2 inches at 7 yds doesn't matter much with a CCW.
Thanks!

Sorry that we live about 3000 miles apart and you won't be able to try mine. Looks like I'm gonna have to keep shooting my Shorty and just tell you about it. :-)
All the Best,

First let me say that IF Arne called me today and asked if I wanted my XR9-S IMMEDIATELY, then I'd say "yes sir", ship it to Georgia!
I would do that KNOWING that chances are there are still some minor bugs yet to be found, and I would, willingly, (as you are doing now) become a "beta-tester" for Arne, as you are, and so are all of the other XR9-S owners at this point.
Never said I wouldn't be extremely happy for the chance to beta-test MY Boberg. I've done that very job before, several times on other guns, and I would expect it with any new model pistol, (or car, etc)..
Stop and think a minute tho... Since the first gun was shipped we have discovered several things that needed "fixin".. Remember the white dots on the front sights falling off? Or the front sight itself falling off? I think Arne mentioned a change in the grip screws, and now some folks are needing a lower front sight to correct for a low shooting XR9-S.. I think the original trigger spring weight started out at 5.5lbs? Then I think the standard now is 7.5lbs, with an optional 9.5? I can't remember each and every "bug" that has been found, but I remember that in every case Arne was quick to respond with a fix, and that fix, whatever it was, cost the gun owner absolutely ZERO..
I was being a smart ass with my original post, but I certainly didn't mean to offend any present owners with my comments. Those of us still "back in line" have to find some humor in our circumstance, and taking casual shots at you folks who already have YOUR Bobergs, and who are finding the bugs in the new guns, offers just a tad of comfort..
I appreciate the offer to let me shoot your Boberg, if I were in your neighborhood, but I'm thinking your neighborhood and MY neighborhood not close enough to allow that to happen. (I live in S.E. Ga)
But IF I were in your "neighborhood" I'd certainly take you up on the offer.
One of my original reservations about getting on the Boberg buyers list WAS that the XR9-S IS a brand new, "different" 9MM pistol. My personal history of buying the "first series" gun has shown me that it is inevitable that minor bugs will be detected by new owners, and corrections made so that later guns won't have those problems.
But, my name being several hundred names down the list will enable, and insure, YOU and the other folks who get (got) their XR9-S ahead of me will do the "finding", Arne will do the "correcting", and hopefully when my higher serial number Boberg is shipped via mule train to Metter Georgia it'll be pretty much bug-free..
And, that's about all the comfort I can squeeze out of having to wait so long for MY XR9-S... (lol)
Best Wishes,
Jesse

The "glitches" are really quite minor and not unexpected. If a problem happens .001% of the time, you can't recognize it until until there are many guns in the field. Early adopters are always in some ways beta- testers, and that is a role we don't mind or we wouldn't be early adopters. I am not sure that I would want to be an early adopter of a new parachute design, but nothing says I have to make this gun my CCW just yet. But soon it will be.

P.S. If you are in the neighborhood and you ask nicely, I'll let you shoot mine. :-)

I've been carrying that same SD round, so now I'm thinking I better test a few more boxes before I get to feeling too comfortable with it. LOL, ordinarily I'd suggest you try to polish your feed ramp, but I don't think that's gonna get you too far with a Boberg. 8-)

Well, wait a minute now... 3000 miles apart... Um... Let's see, my old El Camino gets 20 mpg (more or less), and I'm thinking probably 300 gallons of gas would get me there and back (if I drive prudently), and if we take, say, an average of $3.50 per gal. (my EC uses middle blend, not reg) we're looking at roughly $1020.00 for gas. I'd want to have the oil changed before and after the trip (I love my old EC), so let's add another $80.00 (40X2), and we're looking at an estimated $1100.00. I'm guessing if I can average 600 miles per day (and that's a stretch) it will take me approximately 5 days each way, plus 15 minutes to shoot your Boberg.. So, we're talking fast food and motels for ten days for both me and my dog, so I'm guessing the...
I'll wait for mine....
But!
Thanks for the offer!

Understand you've been through a few boxes of Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P? Have you had any bad experiences with this ammo through your XR9?

Permalink Reply by Harry Truman on February 8, 2012 at 2:51pm Box and a half of the Speer +P is all. But no problems. The rest is in the gun and spare mag I carry. I'm going to pick up a few more boxes now and shoot 'em up. I will say I get better accuracy with these through my gun than the Mag Tech ball ammo I've mainly been using for practice.
Permalink Reply by Kirk F. Davis on March 1, 2012 at 10:48pm I had a similar issue with Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P. Just got my XR9 a few days ago. First time at the range I had 2 FTF within the first two mags. After that, I ran about 50 Winchester White Box FMJ 115's down it with no issues. I then went back to the Gold Dots and then in the first mag, experienced a slide jam. I tugged at it for a bit then was able to push it back into position. Once again, I ran about 50 more of the WWB FMJ rounds through it no problemo.
I've read nothing but good on various forums regarding the Gold Dot 124gr +P running flawlessly through a multiplicity of guns. I had high expectations of this quality ammo, but alas it was not to be...at least with this first time out in my XR9. Maybe after some more break in this might improve. Right now, I have 150 rounds total through mine.
I purchased some CorBon DPX 115g +P to test, but haven't had the opportunity as I'm out travelling right now. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed on this one. Again, I've read nothing but rave reviews on this ammo and yet on this forum I've read about hick-ups with the CorBon when used with the XR9. It seems like mixed reviews here on hollow point ammo one might need for social purposes when fed through the XR9.
Has anyone out there that currently owns an XR9 had 100% reliablity with, say, 200+ rounds of high quality self defense type ammo? If so, please let us know what you're using and how many rounds you've fired without issue.
This gun is a pleasure to shoot, but I purchased it for occasions that might not be so pleasurable so I solicit current owner input on reliable self defense ammo. Thanks and oh, by the way, if you haven't received yours yet, you're really going to have fun with this gun.
Kirk - Have you tried Black Hills? There are a lot of brands out there to choose from. I'm curious about the Speer Gold Dot - I'm wondering how the stoppages are occurring. It may be a simple matter of opening up the chamber throat a little bit, which we will do free of charge. Federal has been know to make bullets over SAAMI spec, and they can hang up in our very tight chamber throat.
Permalink Reply by Harry Truman on March 3, 2012 at 8:18am So far I've shot 3 1/2 boxes with of the Speer Gold Dots with no problems. That's 20 rounds of the 147 gr and about 50 of the 124 +P. I just received an order of 14 boxes (7 of each), so I'll be running some more this weekend, if the wind ever dies down.
