Hello Arne,
I too would like to see an mag plate with a finger extension or a mag with extra rounds.
Getting all the fingers on is the best way to control you piece, and that to me is as important as size.

Along with everyone else, I'd greatly appreciate an option that allows a 3 fingered grip, and ideally higher capacity combat reloads.

Looks like the only independent claim, Claim #1, depends on a "spring bearing plate". The Boberg XR9 magazines do not use a spring bearing plate, so if we could make this work with just our spring in there, we would not violate the patent.
Update: Beretta has another independent claim that does not use the spring bearing plate. However, they still depend on a spring, so any Boberg design would not use any spring - it would just be detented in stowed and extended positions.

If it holds up I don't think you could go wrong with a flip down finger extension. Free grip advantage without adding to the over all XR9 height. It's a thicker mag plate than the XR9 so maybe more of the flip down extension could be a little higher on the front strap and swing down lower it wouldn't have to change the lower profile of your 7 round mag.

Why not skip the axle on the flip down and flip the front down by hinging it at the rear. ( you might have to fill the gap above the extension) with a brace folding down up front...shooting for a full 1/2" or more extension.

A hinge in back is another possible idea. As far as filling the void - if the lip moves down 1/2", it would merely expose material that is flush with the front strap - there may be no need for a piece to fill in there. Also, the only thing needed would be a detent to hold the lip in the down position - no spring required. While I'm not sure about the Beretta design, it appears that the lip is ALWAYS spring-loaded in the stow position, which means if the detent gets worn out, the thing won't stay open.
