I have been reading the Boberg patent
http://www.bobergarms.com/profiles/blogs/boberg-patent-issues-nov-2...
Its very interesting. The shorty is a tightly coupled system. You could not use the shorty ejector/extractor in a different style of gun and they all work together with the lifter and tongs.
If you look at the figures labeled 10A - 10E you can see the various angles that a cartridge is positioned into before it is fed into the chamber. It looks to me as if there are six different angles that the cartridge will be positioned in different parts of the cycle.
During an early stage of the manufacture Arne had some troubles with tolerances. I suspect that this was part number 50 figure 9 which has two different cam surfaces.
The ramp is also interesting Part 46 figure 8 it is counted in the owners manual as a single part but clearly it is made up of a solid part that gives its shape and a separate spring and cross pin. The spring is used like a tiny trampoline at the end of the cam cycle Figure 10 D.
In figures !2A-12B you can see the concave surface 22 which is used to position the cartridge during loading but also must be the hood which causes the damage on the extracted shell casings.
Figure 6 shows the frame holding the cartridge in place similar to but not the same as what machine guns use, so claims the patent.
Well thats all I got for now. Anyone else find something interesting in the patent?

Permalink Reply by NYCNoob on November 25, 2011 at 9:20pm The patent says that the coil pin is designed to flex a bit, which is strange since you do not expect pins to flex, but makes no mention of the leaf spring. I can not see what the leaf spring does.
The patent makes an oblique reference to the pivot hole for the tongs being specially shaped I have no clue what that shape is.
