Ambidextrous Mag Release

My wishlist item is to add/modify an ambidextrous mag release. My Springfield XDM's come with that feature standard and I love it. I would think that is a very simple mod.

Can my existing XR9S be modified to have the mag release button on both sides?

I can have a left-handed version of the mag release made, since the receiver has reversible mounting. However, I have to order enough quantity to keep the price down.

So it's either one side or the other? Not truly ambidextrous?

I really like the HK type paddle mag release (also used by Walther). It is ambidextrous, but more importantly it has virtually no chance of inadvertent activation. Many times have I had a standard push button mag release accidentally drop the mag as it was pushed while in the holster or pocket. For this reason alone I ruled out many pistols for pocket carry (and chose the Seecamp, since I don't carry spare mags anyway for my pocket gun). Weather it be for this reason or for ambidextrous operation, the HK type is definitely the best.

Well, it is reversible, but not designed to be handed from a right-handed shooter to a left-handed shooter. A hex key is required to reverse it.

So I was looking at this and wondering if the existing parts were reversible or if you needed something else to switch the button as the magazines are nicely cut for either.
